How to revise this unit

  1. 1
Separate the calculation from the management interpretation and practise both parts.
  2. 2
State the decision rule before applying a short-term or long-term decision technique.
  3. 3
Use a consistent variance-analysis layout and explain operational causes rather than only labelling results.
  4. 4
Link liquidity recommendations to their likely impact on customers, suppliers, risk and profitability.

Common pitfalls

  • !
Using total costs when a decision requires only relevant or incremental information.
  • !
Reporting a favourable or adverse result without explaining why it matters.
  • !
Improving cash flow in one area without considering the effect on relationships or operational performance.
